Can Homeowners Insurance Cover Termite Damage?

Speaker 1: Over the past few years of being an insurance agent I’ve had many of my clients ask me whether termite damage is covered under your homeowner’s insurance or not. Termites are small but they can cause a lot of damage to your home if you have an infestation. Because termite damage is easily preventable through routine home maintenance, it is typically not covered under your home insurance policy. But there are some things you can do to prevent it, such as make sure your gutters are properly cleared out and draining correctly. You can also make sure all stumps are removed that are near your home. And any wood portion of your house, make sure there’s an 18 inch barrier between that wood and any soil.
