Is My Jewelry Fully Covered Under My Homeowner’s Insurance Policy?

Hey, Steele Dehmer here with Insurance Protection Specialists. It is gift-giving season, Christmas is here and Valentine’s is right around the corner. The question I get a lot is, is my jewelry fully covered under my homeowner’s insurance policy and the answer to that question is no. There are limits on jewelry. A lot of times that’s $1,000, sometimes $2,500 per item. What you will need to do is schedule that under your homeowner’s policy. In order to do that, you need to get an appraisal, give it to your agent, and they will list it on your policy. Once you do that you will have coverage anywhere in the world with no deductible if it’s lost, stolen, or damaged. I’ve had people lose their rings in the sand on the beach, dropped down the disposal, maybe a diamond falls from its set. Any of that is covered as long as it is scheduled. So this Christmas, make sure that you have your valuables covered and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas.
